List of Puppets D-G
Home Page
Puppets are powerful
tools. Children like puppets. Puppets grab and keep the
children’s attention when used effectively.
YOU DON’T NEED:
a big puppet team.
a big budget or
a fancy stage.
a large area to
put a big puppet
stage.
YOU NEED:
to realize the
effectiveness of puppets and puppetry.
to be willing to
work.
to be willing to
learn.
to think creatively
and use what you have.
The ideas I am
going to talk about today are designed for the classroom,
not a large children’s church, but many of them
can be used or adapted and used in a large group
setting.
IDEAS FOR USING
PUPPETS IN YOUR CLASS
1.
Use a
puppet to greet the children as they enter the room.
If the children are young be sure it is a friendly
puppet so you do not scare them.
2.
Use a
puppet to make announcements. Use a rooster puppet
to crow (brag) about the accomplishments or
good deed of someone in the class. Let a wacky professor
read his grocery list instead of make the announcement
then the teacher helps him remember why he is there.
3.
Use a
puppet to mime a special songs.
4.
Use a
puppet to role play or dramatize problem behaviors.
Don't talk about it. Let the puppet demonstrate
it.
5.
Use a
puppet to teach the memory verse. Use a cheerleader
puppet and turn the verse into a cheer.
6.
Have
a small puppet come up or wave behind the teacher’s
back, when the teacher turns around the puppet is
gone. The little mouse puppet or the bee puppet
is great for this role.
7.
Use a
puppet to bring out an object lesson. Ask the class
if they have seen a particular item. Then let a
dog puppet enter with it in his mouth. The teacher
should comment that the dog puppet is always dragging
off stuff. Playfully remove the item from the dog
puppet's mouth and then use it in an object lesson.
Be creative a variety of animals will work.
8.
Let the
puppet teach an object lesson. Use a fish
puppet to teach any of the object lessons from "Hear
the Ocean Roar". Or let a horse puppet talk about
farming or the ant talk about hard work.
9.
Use a
puppet too tell a story. The grandma puppet is a
perfect one for this. you could use the ant puppet
to tell the story of the ant and the grasshopper.
Or let the grasshopper puppet retell it from his
point of view.
10.
Use a
puppet to teach the behavior rules for your
class. "Reggie's Antics" has a great skit to help
you with teach the rules in a fun way.
11.
Use a
chef puppet to sing Happy Birthday to everyone that
has had a birthday this week, or this month. Let
him make up his own tune and his own words.
12.
Use a
high energy, fast talking people puppet to introduce
the lesson theme with a skit or as the official
class MC. Our official Mc was a zany rabbit puppet.
Any animal puppet you like can become your official
MC.
13.
Use a
puppet to review past lessons or Bible facts. Let
the puppet ask the review questions. It is fun if
the puppet has to ask the teacher or another student
if the answer he was just given is correct.
14.
Use a
puppet to lead a song or play an instrumental.
15.
Use a
puppet to bring in props or words that illustrate
a Bible story or a song. You can use flannel graph,
visuals you have on hand or coloring page visuals
the children color in class. This is best done under
a black light. The effect is awesome.
Tell me about a fun way you have used puppets in your classroom.
