     Like Football?

Have some fun with the football theme  and teach the importance of the armor of God using two puppets

2 Puppets: Boy puppet and girl puppets.

PEG bounces in first carrying pompons wearing a cheerleader's outfit yelling a cheer. Petey enters moaning and groaning wearing a football jersey with his hair mussed, clothes torn carrying his helmet.

Peggy: Petey, what happened to you? Come back here, the game just started.

PetOh, I got hit. Wow! Football is a rough sport. A guy could get killed out there. I think I'll sit the rest of this game out in the safety of my living room.

Peggy: But Petey, the team needs you. Were you wearing your helmet?

Petey: Of course not. It might get dented or something.

Peggy: No, wonder you got hurt. Football is a dangerous game.

Petey: You're not kidding. That's why I'm quitting.

Peggy: (firmly) Oh, no you're not. That equipment is your protection. You have to wear it so you won't get hurt. We're going to win this game and you're gonna help us. Now you get in there and get on your equipment!

Petey: You mean you want me to put on the knee pads and the shoulder pads and all the other stuff too?

Peggy: You're beginning to get my picture. Get in there!

Petey: Give me one reason why I should do what you say.

Peggy: (real sweet) Petey, I'll give you, two good reasons. One, if you don't put the equipment on you could get hurt. Two (hollering), if you don't get back in the game I'm gonna break your face.

Petey: Oh, since you put it that way. See you around, Peggy! (Petey exits first, then Peggy.)

To add some pizzazz to your football theme you could mime Are you ready for the Rapture? to the Tune of "Are you ready for some football? on RPM 2 CD or the song "Put Me in Coach" to the tune of "Center Field" on  RPM 6 CD.

This story bags are used as a fascinating visuals to captivate the attention of your audience. No one is surprised when you turn the bag inside out, but then when you do it again and again, they are baffled.  The mixture of prints and solids make this bag especially memorable. This story bag is used to illustrate that Christmas is no ordinary holiday. Christmas is an extraordinary reminder of God’s love.

(Show the Christmas Print on the outside of the bag.) Christmas means different things to different people. To some it means beautiful decorations of ornaments and pretty lights. To others it means good food and sweet treats. To some it means gifts and parties. Then there are those that declare Christmas is getting with family and good friends. All of those things make a celebration fun, but I am thankful to announce like the angels did long ago, Christmas is much more than an ordinary celebration.

(Show the animals.) Yes, our story starts out very ordinary. Just an ordinary man and a woman on their way to Bethlehem  where they will be counted and taxed along with lots of other ordinary folks. When they arrive, the city is packed with people. They both realize the baby would be born soon, very soon so they look for a place to stay. But there is no room. They can’t find a single room anywhere, only a stable, an ordinary stable, the smelly kind with cows and chickens and donkeys and lots of scratchy hay. It was just an ordinary night, and a village filled with ordinary people and an ordinary stable, but something extraordinary happened that night. Something that would change history, our calendars and even the souls of mankind.

(Show the baby.) A baby was born. Everybody loves babies, but this was not an ordinary baby. This baby was the Son of God. But wait a minute! If this is God’s Son, what is ”He” doing in an ordinary feeding trough, in a ordinary stable, in a ordinary little town called Bethlehem?

(Look back at the animals) This baby was the King of kings. Why wasn’t he born in a palace? That’s where you find an ordinary king, but remember I already said this King was no ordinary King. He was born in a stable because there was room for Him there. He still goes only where people make room for Him. The amazing thing about His presence is He transforms the ordinary places and ordinary people into the extraordinary.

(turn back to the baby) This baby was sent by God to be the Savior of the World. The prophets foretold his birth. They called him The Messiah, The Promised One, The Anointed One, The Prince of Peace, Emanuel. A lot of names for such a little fellow. But Christmas is more than a cute story about a cute little baby, Christmas is about God keeping His promise.

The angels announced his birth to tired shepherds as they watched over their sheep. In wonder and awe, they forgot their aching backs and tired feet to hurry to see the extraordinary sight. These were shepherds.  They must have visited hundreds of stables and seen hundreds of mangers, but you know…this was no ordinary night and this was no ordinary baby. This baby was the perfect Son of God. He was God’s gift to save mankind from their sins.

(Stars) The wise men, very wise men saw the great star and recognized that this was the sign prophesied by Baalam. (Remember him? He was the guy with the talking donkey.)

They traveled a great distance to see this extraordinary king. A king with a star, not over his door, but over his house, a star that guided the wise men to Jesus. Wise people are still following the light of God’s Word to Jesus. Oh, you won’t find Him in a stable. You won’t find Him in a house or a church. But you will find Him when you seek Him with your heart.

(Show yellow color.) Jesus said, “I am the light of the World.” Jesus came into this world to be the Savior of the world. To save mankind form their sin. Why? John 3:16 explains that so beautifully. For God so loved the world that He gave…

Christmas is no ordinary holiday. It’s a celebration of an extraordinary announcement... an extraordinary gift …an extraordinary love …an extraordinary Savior.

(There is a Velcro pocket in the story bag. Put a tiny wrapped present tied with a bright ribbon.)

You can receive God’s extraordinary gift of salvation. It is simple as a,b,c. All have sinned. Believe on Jesus and Confess your sins and you can have God’s gift of salvation.
