Olympic
Moments
He
isn’t remembered because he won a medal. He isn’t remembered because
of record-breaking speed, but he is remembered because of his courage to
complete the course.
It was 1992 at the semifinal 400-meter race in
Barcelona. Years of sacrifice and hard work had prepared him for this
moment and this race. The runners catapulted toward the finish line. But
Derek Redmond from Great Britain collapsed in pain on the track. The
race was over for Derek, but he refused to stay down. He struggled to
his feet and began to make his way to the finish line. His dad was in
the stands, hoping to see his son win a medal. When he saw his son’s
struggle, he broke onto the track, wrapped his arm around his sons
shoulder and helped him cross the finish line.
Maybe you’re down. Maybe you feel all alone. In
spite of your pain, get up. You are not alone, your heavenly Father is
beside you helping you complete the course. Helping you to run the race
that He has given you to run.
"Champions
don’t become champions in the ring. They are merely recognized there.
