Leading Children In my devotions I read Numbers 27:12-18. numbers is an awesome book! The account of Moses and God chatting, challenged my heart. First, can you imagine having that kind of relationship with God? Can you imagine just chatting back and forth like you would with your best friend on the phone? Lord make me like Moses. Secondly, God said Moses I want you to up Mt. Abarim and look across the river. I want you to see the Promised Land. I can’t let you go in because you didn’t obey me and glorify me before the people at Meribah. But I want you to see it Moses. I’m sure there was a smile in God’s voice as he talked. It must have sounded like a proud father showing his son something wonderful. Now if I were Moses, I’m sure there would have been a dozen things on my mind. Maybe something like, "Can’t I live a little longer or God won’t you please change your mind about letting me in the Promised Land?" But not Moses! He said, "God, please appoint a new leader." He was concerned about his people. He knew they would scatter like sheep if there was no strong leader in place that could guide them. His first concern was his people. What an incredible leader. If we are going to lead children we must always keep their welfare as our focus. So often people want to become leaders because they want to look and feel important. But leadership isn’t about being important It is about caring for people’s needs and welfare. We are like sponges. What comes out of us in difficult times reveals what is inside of us. In Moses’ difficult time, his concern, His heart for people was exposed. I pray that God will give teachers that kind of heart. A heart that isn’t concerned for personal needs first, but is concerned about the people God has put under their care. © Copyright 2000 Let Us Teach Kids 1453 Otoes Pl.; Jacksonville, FL 32259 904 287-2869 www.letusteachkids.com. .
