Watch out for your great enemy,
He prowls around like a roaring lion,
looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 NLT
As a parent and a grandparent, I was reminded yesterday how important it is for parents to know the apps that are loaded on their children’s phones.
We love our apps. They enrich our lives in far too many ways for me to list.
But some of them are potentially dangerous, especially in the hands of children and youth.
It is obvious by what the mom did afterwards that she cared deeply for her son. I can’t even begin to imagine how heart breaking it must have been for this mom to take her son back to the murder scene and watch her 16 year old son being arrested.
A normal Sunday evening was suddenly changed after a jealous boyfriend saw a Snapchat message on his girlfriend’s phone. He responded with a threatening message. When the teenager that had sent the message showed up the girl’s house, angry words turned into a fight and ended with the boyfriend stabbing and killing the teenager that initiated the Snapchat message.
Sometimes we don’t realize the potential danger of some of these apps. Innocent looking apps. But when put in the hands of undiscerning children or even youth in a world with predators they become lethal.
Parents be wise. Discern. But, also look at your child’s phone. What apps do they have on it? Who are their friends? It’s more important to protect their life than their privacy!!!!
